This year we had great weather, perfect for a good run. I anticipated my first Turkey Trot 10K in many years. Usually I have a sore psoas by late November for one reason or another and just help out with the Santa Cruz Track Club instead of running. Maybe I'd do the 5K, or just shorter, unofficial. But I've had a great past 6 months with this issue and no real psoas trouble. I've been diligent with some, I think, helpful exercises and done some significant trail running with Vibram 5-Finger foot gloves helping encourage better running form, and was optimistic I'd be able to get in a 6 mile race w/o psoas pain. However, my beach run 2 days earlier was a hint this was not to be so... I had psoas pain after even an easy 2 miles. Nevertheless, I started off this Turkey Trot 10K at a good pace and intended to hold it, at my aerobic-set level. But before mile 1, I felt my hip psoas start to irritate my bursa and that just got worse and worse the rest of the race. Ouch. Worst runing pain since the Walnut Creek Half a year ago. But, still, the day was fun, seeing so many friends...

Ricks Molinar and Ferrell, getting in a warm up

Somehow I got roped into this shot. Yow.

Much better! My good friend Mary would be running too.

And Salvatore - who has shared the Main Beach with me in the past many times running the sand

The Elite Runners from SCTC turned out too

The Elites.... and then, me.

Diane Emcee'd the run start

I started at a good pace, Salvatore paced himself... and caught me when my psoas started to grip me, and then slowly pulled ahead. We're in the same age group... bummer.

The race course was beautiful - along the bike path on West Cliff all the way to the Bronze Surfer statue

SCTC'rs, and Salvatore just before I hit the turnaround at the Bronze Surfer

Ferrell's running form looks much improved.

Andy brought the dogs so Mary could enjoy their company as she finished. Nice smile!

The Peanut Gallery looks on, as awards are given out.

Ferrell gets a silver for his 2nd place. An excellent time, too.

Sue took home some hardware too - great effort!

Salvatore took 2nd, and I took 3rd in the 65-69 age group. I squeeze out a smile as my hip is REALLY complaining right now.

Great effort, Salvatore!

Rich Robinson, Ferrell, and Dave D

Hardware Hombres. Gold's, Silver's, and Bronze's all around
