A tradition, on the last Saturday of July. Been doing this race since I first came to Santa Cruz. The first two years I did it without a wetsuit. Finally I got my first wetsuit and haven't been tempted to do it bare since. I've been in good swim condition this year and hoped to get close to my PR, which is 23:59, or at least break 25 minutes. The water today was unusually cold, 56F, and the day was foggy.

Cowells Beach came up #1 in the state this year - most polluted ocean water. The familiar signs promised to make this event a work out for not just the muscles, but the immune system too. Fun! |
