* navigate to c:\rick\grad\bennss (or benncos)
* Find the original quiz text file from TP, like tp-1.1
* at the cmd prompt convert to proper .txt format with DOS command c:\rick\grad\bennss>fixtxt
* repeat for all the other quizzes and final.
* give it the file name; for example tp-1.1. It'll produce a properly formated file tp-11.txt
* Now look at that output file and make any last touches and most important, add an * in front of the right answers. If the right answer
has more than 1 line to it, make sure the text for all lines is indented with a space bar so they line up after putting in the asterisk.
Now to convert to .zip files that Canvas can "import", one quiz at a time...
* >qtinew and wait a few seconds for the big menu box to pop up.
* Navigate to the folder c:\rick\grad\bennss and click the green button and click on the file e.g. tp-11.txt
* See that that file is indeed in the top box. Then click the "Run" box.
* common errors that will cause fail errors:
- you have some answers that start with e.g. "a." when they need to be "a)".
- you failed to indent the second line of a correct answer. Use the space key to do that.
- you don't have every answer start at the left edge. Tab's that make it look like they're not at the left edge are ignored and that's OK. So to see where the white spaces are, use the mouse to highlight. The blue is everything that is a white space or content. The right edges can be ragged but the left edge of the beginning of each blue block must line up and defines the left edge.
--- if you get an error, highlight the error and space to remove it from the qtinew box, fix the file, save it, then just click the top green box again and "run" again on the same file. If you can't figure out what's wrong, use google.ai and it'll help, maybe.
* If it gives no errors, in /BENNSS you'll see a green note at bottom that it's created a new .zip file.
* repeat into the green box for the other quizzes, including the final exam.
* Open Canvas, go to your course,

click the "home" button. And at upper right click "Import course content" and select "qti zip file" at bottom of popup menu.
* then click "browse" and you should see a list of all .zip files including the one you just made. Like tp-11. Select it, then click Add to Import Queue. It'll take a few seconds, perhaps saying in green "queued" and finally "completed".
* Do the same for the other quizzes, which should go faster as Canvas now seem to be "in the groove" of this process.

Now they are all in your Quiz list and you can do any additional editing and then publish.

* the format of the text version of the quiz that you need, is to have "Quiz title:" followed by a space, and then your title, then
left justify lines that begin a question, and lines that begin an answer. If the sentences that define these go over to later lines, they must
be indented so that the first line of text for each line is the same. Space lines are OK.
* I wrote a program sitting in /rick/grad/bennss called FIXTXT.EXE and this operates on my files fresh out of TP.EXE and converts them to the
format needed by TEXT2QTI.
* now run TEXT2QTI. I made a .bat file called QTI3.BAT which is in side the Anaconda cmd folder, and it makes it easier by doing the path for you.
Make another one next semester called QTI4.BAT and you need another one QTI7.BAT (and QTI5.BAT when that time comes)
* when text2qti runs successfully, you get no messages; just the bat file prints. But you'll now find in the BENNSS folder a new .zip file which has your quiz qti version
* Inside Canvas, go to your course and click "import course content' and select 'qti zip file'. Import.

It should just take a second and under the automatically popped up window "jobs" it should give a blue box "completed" very quickly
* Your quiz should now be in the Quiz tab, and you can edit it as desired.

Alas, when Canvas fails to import the quiz because of an error, it typically gives no error. You just don't get your quiz in the quiz tab.
