Astro 27, in terms of content, is concentrated highlights of my other Cabrillo Astronomy courses,.. bits from Astro 3, Astro 4, Astro 7, and Astro 5,.. in the form of micro-lectures of 10-20-30 minute duration given around the campfire or at shady spots on the trail. Your exams will test your knowledge of these subjects from my Presentations, and perhaps what you can also get using Google and the web - always a good choice.
I've gotten permission from the administration to drive to our field location and do photos and video footage to help you have some of the feel of our field classes, but only with help from a former student and who has had his CoVid vaccinations (as I have as well). Since our course this year is totally on-line, will consist of my PowerPoint presentations when I'm at home and can Zoom meet with you, and I'll also be making videos when out in the field, to give you a feel for what it's like on one of my field courses.
Thur Apr 1 4:00-5:30pm

First Lecture (Zoom Recording)
* On the formation of stars and the formation of planetary systems. The PDF of the PowerPoint is here. The lecture only did the first section; "Chapter 7,8 Star Formation".
*
The last half of this PDF covers other solar systems around other stars, and the Zoom lecture version will be given later.
Friday Apr 2 all afternoon, evening

I will be at Laguna Mtn making these video "micro-lectures" to be shown later after returning and putting on YouTube. I also hope to do astrophotography using Cabrillo's equipment, and video demonstrations of how we do this. Alas, I cannot live-broadcast from the field, for many reasons - including lack of internet connection! For preparation, please look at the following PowerPoint slide shows on the relevant subjects
* The Evolution of Stars
*The Story Telling of Science (ASU Origins Panel - a free for all of very energetic scientists and science communicators on what science is and how it works and what the fun is all about) part 1 (1hr 27) , part 2 (1hr 17)
*The Texas Star Party 2019 (In a Galaxy Far Far away!). Great fun, and communicates what a good star party is like
Saturday Apr 3 all day in the field
*
at Laguna Mountain profiling the planetary science visible along Laguna Canyon and creek, and the Laguna Creek waterfall. And if we must leave early due to rain coming, we'll try to swing by Pinnacles for the Bear Creek Caves hike, with video. Video of micro-lectures along the way will be available at some point, hopefully next week
Sunday Apr 4 - I will either be at Pinnacles National Park creating more video, or if raining, be at home to give more Zoom sessions and Zoom recordings of our material.
Assignments: Stay tuned as I adapt to what the situation allows! No worries!
