Shahram shot this amazing picture of the Sword of Orion which includes Comet 217P LINEAR left of the Running Man Nebula. 5x1min stack with Canon xsi with IR modification to allow H-alpha light, on APO flourite 80mm refractor, Sept 28 '09. A beautiful picture! |
HH's Gallery
HH drove all the way from Monterey each week, showing real dedication. His work schedule prevented getting a full complement of images late in the semester however

Fred's Gallery
Fred used his own 8" Mak-Newtonian 190mm f/6 scope on a G11 mount for these amazing photos
Waxing Crescent Moon 10/24/09 Bonny Doon Airport - five 1/100 second prime focus exposures were taken with a Canon 5D MK II at ISO 100 on Orion 190mm diameter 1000mm fl Mak-Newt Reflector. RAW images converted to DNG then normalized, data-rejected using min/max clip and registered in CCDStack. Mean combined image then colorized, saved as 16 bit TIFF. Photoshop CS2 was used for final editing using levels & curves highpass filtering and sharpening. |

Galaxy, M33, 11/14/09 Bonny Doon Airport - 4x10min on SBIG ST-4000XCM
w/ an Orion 190mm f/6 Mak-Newt Reflector. LRGB extracted, calibrated,
STD sigma reject in CCDStack. The mean combined images for each RGB set
normalized, colorized then saved as 16 bit TIFF file. The mean Luminosity
was imported as a luminosity layer over the RGB layer to make the composite
LRGB image. Then Photoshop CS2: levels, curves, highpass filtering, color

6x5min on NGC 891, using the 12" Meade at Cabrillo Observatory and ST2000xcm, using CCDstack and photoshop, and Noise Ninja. Note the strong interstellar reddening of a normall bluish galaxy at these low galactic latitudes in Andromda. |
Marko's Gallery
Marko went way above and beyond the course requirements, uncovering opportunities for amateur astronomers to use large telescopes to remotely take LRGB photos, and then figuring out how to process them. His results are stunning. Students, be forewarned that some of these results are NOT possible with Cabrillo equipment at Cabrillo's canyon location (but we can do pretty well just the same!). Marko use LightBuckets.com and Global RentAscope for his remote adventures. Marko's also created a slideshow of his images on SmileBox. Enjoy!

Jonathan's Gallery. JC put together his own website gallery of his photos, taken with his new Nikon and Megrez/mount combo.
I used our Nikon D40 on the Megrez refractor on Sept 30 to shoot this moon picture at 1/350sec. Students, Download it here and process it in Photoshop as you like! Freebie for all!
