The Occultation of a 12.0 star by the Asteroid Fringilla

Apr 6, 2020 at 10:03:09pm PDT

This event was high in the sky, but with a near full moon 90 degrees away and heavy dew after our recent storm. I almost forgot about it, what with on-line teaching and quiz proctoring till 9pm. I had just 40 minutes after I pulled my stuff together, and that included making a chart, photo'ing with my iPhone to bring out to the scope. I had trouble with the 12VDC plug not seated well enough into the adapter to the Orion Power Supply and it reset once, and then reset again after I'd found the target star. The symptom was that I had to continually move the scope to keep the star in the field. Too late to try and do another 2-star align or diagnose why - I only found the cause afterwards. Still, it was a successful taping.

I observed from home. Too rushed to alert Kirk for a possible 2nd station. Looked like I taped successfully, but in fact it didn't tape at all. The dreaded "bars" on playback. I then cleaned the tape heads with 91% alcohol and Q tips and now it's normal again. It's been a year (Eros last year) since I had this sort of trouble, and I should remember to check with a pre-occultation tape/playback to make sure it's working. And even to pack a little alcoholg and Q-tip for emergency cleaning in my little bag.

So - NO DATA.
