The Occultation of an 11.3 Star by The Asteroid Petrina

Preston Predictions

This event goes centrally across Monterey Bay, but is narrow enough that Santa Cruz is right on the northern limit. This makes getting south far enough to be well inside the path more travel-costly. Given the relatively poor rank, I'm not sure I personally want to do that driving, especially since there's another event this same night, later, in the opposite direction that I do plan to try, as it's got better odds. The target is where Leo, Hydra, and Cancer all meet, 33 degrees up in the Southwest. The sun will be at -13 degrees so there will still be some faint twilight. I don't think it will affect photometry, but during setup you'll have to be efficient because twilight will be noticable until soon before the event.

Fog came in and wrecked Kirk from home. I got above the fog at upper UCSC and got a solid taping... of a miss. Karl got blocked by a giant redwood.
