This high rank event passes just north of Santa Cruz. The southern limit goes through Davenport and Empire Grade/Felton-Empire firestation. This means we will all have to drive to get this. Besides Team Santa Cruz, there are 4 other observers - Ted Swift, Jerry Bardecker, C Anderson, and Kent Osaki over near San Jose. I plan to observe it from Locatelli Meadow, as fog has been coming in lately. Otherwise, it would be easier to drive north to perhaps upper Swanton Rd/Hwy 1 and Ano Nuevo for Kirk and I. Unsure if Kirk's working out of town for this one.
The event lasts up to 11 seconds, which is good. We'll want to integrate a bit in order to see the shallow dip of 0.5 magnitude. The event is near the S0 13th magnitude galaxy NGC 7215, which might turn out to be useful. It's nicely high in the sky; 53 degrees up at Az 175 nearly due south, a few degrees west of the tripod of Aquarius. The thick crescent moon is only 4 degrees up, in the west.
We got delayed by fog and other troubles and got set up at Twin Gates trail head on Mt Hamilton Road and on-target 5 minutes too late. No data. Karl was fogged out in the SC Mtns. Ted got a positive from Industria. See my Achilles write up for more detail on the two-event adventure.
