The Occultation of a W=9.3 Star by Asteroid 2000 SP34

Dec 22, 2023 at 12:59am

This is a low-ish rank event passing through Monterey Bay and centerline over Las Lomas. But the odds of a hit on the centerline are only 35%, and 22% from Santa Cruz. Clouds are expected to still be lingering in a lagely clear sky. Given the sleep loss at 1am, I'm advising to try this from home. Kirk's not available, so just me and Karl are possible observers. It's at al=69 Az=293. The half moon is 47 degrees away. The target is in Auriga, near Capella in the center of the triangle asterism called "the kids".

I set up from home under clear skies. Got a nice clean recording... of a miss. I set up under the palm tree.
