The Occultation of a R=10.4 Star by Asteroid 2001QM89

Wed eve Feb 21 at 9:53:39pm PST

This is a bright event of decent rank, and so it's got a high probability of being do-able. And, it's clear tonight! Worth a go. Karl's going to try from the Hogback. I will plan to get it from the Mt Charlie monument. Not many places inside the path you can get a target only 15 degrees up in the East. Az=84

Results:

I drove to Mtn Charlie Monument and almost got it.... but the clouds were too thick to ID the field until 5 min after the event. I did record, but only 1 star visible through the clouds, and it wasn't the target, which was above the top edge of the chip. Got nothing except a few documentary shots on my camera.

Karl drove up to the HogBack, into a dense cloud - also got nothing.

Looking down towards San Jose.
