This is a wide path, long event with high rank. The target is dim, but for a duration of 3.4s and alt=34, this is an easy one to get. Fog is supposed to be a problem this night, and we may have to drive to Mercey Hot Springs to get out of the fog, which would be a long trip, however.

This was the first event of a triple event night, as a substitute for our aborted plan to drive to Carrizo Plain for the Achates occultation. I set out Kirk, Sandy, and myself according to the images above. We used the same sites for the bright 2001 FC46 event which was just 14 minutes later than Ulrike. Skies were clear, dry, no wind, pretty perfect.
My plan was to use the Startech cable and do direct-to-PC. My success with the Quaoar event had me overconfident with the procedure, though. The IOTA VC 2.4 software has an unanticipated glitch to it. That software does not contact the input stream unless the input stream is already happening at the time the software is started. If you try all the menu items over and over inside the sotware, you will still fail, and see an error in the status box saying the input stream is unreadable or something similar. What was necessary (found only too late, well after the events) was to kill the software and re-open it off the Windows desktop fresh, AFTER the input stream was established by a powered on VTI and Watec. This defeated my attempt at the occultation. I did not have time to instead go the Camcorder old method. However, I did switch to the camcorder method in time to get the 2001 FC46 event 14 minutes after Ulrike. So, I got no data on Ulrike, but I did get a miniDV camcorder record for 2001 FC46.
Had no troubles, got on target, and got a positive. 5.2 sec event for Ulrike, July 5, 8x from Hwy 25.
