The Occultation of a W=12.6 star for 0.5s by Asteroid (8992) Magnanimity

This event is not bright, but it's do-able given its high 60 degree altitude in a black clean sky. Ideally at 4x, which would give a maximum of 6 points inside the occultation. The nominal rank is good. But the RUWE is 3.95, far above the 1.20 limit above which the star position is known less accurately and affects the path. The path could be off by a full path width, perhaps even more.

Karl is near the nominal centerline. Laurel Drive, up Hwy 17 and used a couple of times by Kirk Bender, is also near the centerline. I'd likely try to get it from Glenwood Rd closer to the northern limit.

I saw some clouds come in 1 hr before the event, and decided I'd not drive to Laurel Rd, given the high RUWE and lower odds of getting anything of scientific value. Instead, I thought I might get lucky if I just tried from home if it cleared up. It did clear up, and I did record from my carport. At 4x. Star was steady and it will very likely be a definitive miss once I reduce it. It looked visually like a miss.

Start: 08:32:57 UT
End : 08:34:50 UT

Yes, it was a clear miss. Again.

Was on-target, then capped the scope for a while to guard against dew, but when un-capped, the scope drift was more than a field off target, and he could not re-acquire the target in time. No data.
